PC Softphone

Softphone

A Softphone is an application that makes telephone calls from your PC. It uses your PC Speakers, Microphone, Headset or our USB Phone and can make or receive calls from anywhere in the world.

There are different soft phone applications available for Smart phones, MS Windows & Apple computers. They range from free software to software that can be bought on line.

Desktop Phones

The Desktop IP Phone is an Internet telephone which functions independently of your computer. It connects directly to your Ethernet network via a standard Ethernet connection. The advantage over old style phones is that no additional cabling is needed.

ATA

An analogue telephony adapter or analogue telephone adapter ( ATA) is a device used to connect one or more standard analogue telephones to a digital telephone system (such as Voice over IP) or a non-standard telephone system.

An ATA usually takes the form of a small box with a power adapter, one or more Foreign exchange Station (FXS) telephone ports (i.e.:rj12 receptacles) and may also have a Foreign exchange Office (FXO) link (i.e.: telephone, pbx, or answering machine). Users can plug one or more standard analogue (old Telkom) devices into the ATA and the analogue device(s) will operate, usually transparently, on a VOIP network.

The most common ATA is a box with at least one FXS (which includes a telephone jack ), used to connect a conventional telephone, and an Ethernet jack used to connect the adapter to a LAN. Using such an ATA, it is possible to connect a conventional telephone to a remote VoIP server. Since the ATA communicates directly with the VoIP server, it does not require a personal computer or any software such as a soft phone. It uses approximately 3 to 5 watts of electricity, depending on model and brand.
